Zelensky warns of Russia preparing a new large-scale strike on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a conference call regarding the situation in Ukraine’s regions following a night missile strike on energy facilities. Air defence systems responded effectively; however, the Russian army continues to carry out attacks, even on the eve of trilateral talks in Geneva.

The head of state reported this on his Telegram channel.

Zelenskyy stressed that every Russian missile is a signal of aggression against diplomatic efforts and calls to end the war, and he urged increased pressure on Russia as well as security guarantees for Ukraine.

The President instructed the Air Force command, the Ministry of Defence and Ukrenergo to prepare additional protective measures during the day, taking into account intelligence information indicating that Moscow is preparing a new massive strike.

The situation in Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Poltava, Sumy region, Kropyvnytskyi, Kyiv and Ternopil was also discussed separately. The government is to expand the supply of “heat packages” to Kharkiv to approximately 90,000.

Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal reported preparations for meetings in the format of an energy “Ramstein” in France with the G7 countries, the Nordic and Baltic states, the United States, Canada and the EU to coordinate specific support packages for Ukraine’s energy sector.

Accelerating the delivery of air defence missiles remains a priority. Zelenskyy emphasised that the task of all state institutions is to ensure the swift implementation of agreements with partners and to strengthen Ukraine’s defence.

Zelenskyy also outlined three steps for Donald Trump to stop the war.

It should be recalled that peace between Ukraine and Russia currently appears unattainable. The Russian leadership continues to use the topic of peace negotiations as a tool to achieve its strategic objectives, which extend far beyond territorial claims.
