The Ukrainian Armed Forces have advanced in the Sloviansk direction, according to the ISW
Over the past few days, Ukrainian defense forces have advanced in the Sloviansk sector of the Donetsk region.
In addition, Ukrainian forces have carried out a series of successful counterattacks in other sectors of the front, holding back the Russian advance.
In the Sloviansk sector, Russian sources have publicly acknowledged that the Russian Armed Forces no longer control a number of positions.
Specifically, these include territories east of Lyman, west of Ivanivka, in the northwestern part of Zarichne, and in the northeastern part of Yampil. Previously, Russian propaganda outlets had claimed to be advancing or maintaining a presence in these areas.
At the same time, the Ukrainian military refutes Russian claims of an alleged Russian advance in Svyatogorsk.
According to Ukrainian soldiers, Russian troops have increased the number of assaults in the Lyman sector and continue to build up their forces there. However, Russian units are suffering casualties due to strikes by Ukrainian forces.
On the Kostiantynivka front, Russian troops recently advanced and are continuing their attempts to penetrate the city.
On the Dobropillia front, the occupiers carried out offensive operations on September 7–8 but did not achieve any new territorial gains.
At the same time, Russian forces made some progress in the Pokrovsk sector. Based on geolocated imagery, they likely captured Myrne, northwest of Pokrovsk, as well as the nearby village of Vasylivka.
In the Novopavlivka sector, on September 7–8, Russian forces carried out limited assaults but were unable to break through Ukrainian defenses.
In the north of the Sumy region, Russian troops continued their offensive operations on September 7–8.
However, according to the ISW’s assessment, the Russians were unable to advance due to counterattacks by Ukrainian forces.
In particular, the Ukrainian Defense Forces operated near Kindrativka and Novokostiantynivka, located north of Sumy.
In the Kupiansk and Borovsk directions, Russian troops continued offensive operations on September 7–8, but made no new territorial gains due to Ukrainian counterattacks.
According to Russian sources, Ukrainian forces also launched a counterattack near Zakhidne, north of Kupiansk.
At the same time, sources claim that the Russian command is already preparing for a winter campaign and compiling lists of service members who are to remain in Kupiansk.
According to the ISW’s assessment, this may indicate that the Russian command does not expect to conclude the fighting for Kupiansk this fall.
Thus, Russian troops continue offensive operations on a number of fronts, while Ukrainian forces are conducting counterattacks and, in some areas, regaining lost positions or advancing.

On September 9, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine updated its data on Russian military losses. Over the past 24 hours, Ukrainian defenders eliminated 1,480 invaders, and Russia’s total military losses have exceeded 1.5 million troops.
As a reminder, fires broke out at industrial facilities in the Kyiv region due to a Russian attack.
Russia also launched a massive attack on Kyiv, killing and wounding civilians.
Later, rescue workers showed the aftermath of the strikes on Kyiv.
