Sudan army claims to repel Blue Nile attack and advance in Kordofan — Asharq Al-Awsat
In Sudan, the army said it had repelled an attack by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces on the settlement of Al-Kaili in the Kurmuk district of Blue Nile state. Local authorities claim the attackers crossed the border from Ethiopian territory, while the military reported a preemptive strike south of the settlement.
According to Asharq Al-Awsat, the army said several Rapid Support Forces fighters were killed and nine combat vehicles were destroyed. The route used by the attackers, as well as casualty information, has not been independently confirmed.
Claims of control in North Kordofan
Also on Thursday, the Sudanese military announced it had regained control of 11 areas west of the city of El-Obeid in North Kordofan state. The locations named include Kajmar, Sharshar, Al-Kulayyat, Awlad-Hazma, and the area near Al-Mazruba.

The state news agency SUNA circulated an army statement about the “liberation of several areas” in the state. According to the military, its units engaged in fighting with the Rapid Support Forces and conducted clearing operations in areas previously entered by the paramilitary formations. There is no independent confirmation of army control over all the listed locations.
Fighting on several fronts
Military sources also reported the advance of the army and its allies near the city of Bara and toward Sodari in northwestern North Kordofan. Other sources reported the recapture of Al-Farshaya in South Kordofan and Al-Mamsuka in West Kordofan. According to field sources, the recapture of Al-Farshaya, if confirmed, could facilitate army movement along the Dilling route.
Sodari is of military importance because of its location on routes connecting North Kordofan with Darfur. Control of the roads in this area is important for troop movements and supplies to the west. The report also notes that in recent months the army has expanded its area of control in North Kordofan after heavy fighting, regaining control of Bara, Umm Sayala, Jabra al-Sheikh, Jireikh, and Umm Kirfa, which made it possible to open the Export Road between Khartoum and El-Obeid.
