Azerbaijan has ratified a treaty on legal assistance with Ukraine
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed a law ratifying the treaty with Ukraine on legal assistance in civil and commercial matters.
The document was signed on April 25, 2026, in the Azerbaijani city of Gabala. Earlier, on July 10, the Azerbaijani parliament ratified the treaty.
On the Ukrainian side, the document was signed by Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga, and on the Azerbaijani side, by Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov. The agreement was concluded during Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s official visit to Azerbaijan.
The new treaty aims to regulate the provision of legal assistance in civil and commercial matters, as well as to strengthen the protection of the rights of citizens and legal entities of both countries.
Ukrainian officials emphasize that the document is of strategic importance for protecting the rights of Ukrainians abroad. Its conclusion is part of the transition from the mechanisms of the 1993 Minsk Convention to a new system of bilateral legal assistance agreements with partner states.

As a reminder, trade between Ukraine and Azerbaijan grew by more than 10% in the first five months of 2026 compared to the same period last year.
Azerbaijan plans to resume direct air service with Russia on several routes in the near future.
