Azerbaijan summoned the EU ambassador over a resolution regarding the situation in Karabakh
On May 1, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned European Union Ambassador Marijana Kujundžić to lodge an official protest regarding a European Parliament resolution. The document, in particular, condemns Baku’s treatment of detained Armenian prisoners of war and emphasizes the rights of the Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh.
This was reported by AZERTAC, citing the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Foreign Ministry called the statements in the resolution “baseless and biased.” In this regard, a note of protest was handed to the ambassador.
At the meeting, the EU ambassador was told that the provisions of the resolution “distort reality, contradict the principles of objectivity, and violate commitments to respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states.”
“This approach by the European Parliament negatively impacts the normalization process in the region, as well as the prospects for relations between Azerbaijan and the European Union,” the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry noted.
In addition, the meeting emphasized that calls for the release of Armenian prisoners of war are legally unacceptable.
It was also emphasized that claims regarding the “destruction of cultural and religious heritage” are “completely unfounded and unacceptable.”
At the meeting, the European Union representative was asked to refrain from such actions, which harm relations between Azerbaijan and the European Union, as well as the peace and normalization process in the region.
Azerbaijan donated a fleet of passenger buses to Ukraine.
Ukraine and Azerbaijan signed six documents during Zelenskyy’s visit.
