Transnistria has claimed that Moldova’s decision is causing economic hardship
The unrecognized region of Transnistria has criticized Moldova’s decision to abolish tax breaks for local businesses, calling it “economic strangulation.”
This was reported by Newsmaker.
The region’s so-called “Foreign Ministry” stated that Chisinau’s actions constitute a form of pressure and could lead to serious economic consequences.
They claim that the cancellation of incentives could lead to business closures, job losses, and a reduction in budget revenues.
Transnistria also accused the Moldovan authorities of escalating the situation and attempting to destabilize the region.
The statement called on participants in the international negotiation process to intervene to prevent further escalation.
Russian Ambassador to Moldova Oleg Ozerov stated that Moscow would “protect” Russian citizens in the Transnistrian region “by all available means” in the event of a forceful or violent resolution of the conflict.
Moldovan Foreign Minister Mihai Popșoi reacted strongly to the statements by the designated Russian ambassador, who threatened to “protect citizens” in Transnistria in the event of a military scenario. In Chișinău, this was called an element of hybrid pressure, and Russia was accused of undermining the country’s sovereignty.
