Most Spaniards dissatisfied with government actions during Ceuta crisis
In Spain, most respondents negatively assessed the actions of Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez’s government during the mass crossing of the border by migrants in Ceuta at the end of July. According to a 40dB poll for El Pais and SER radio station, only 14.2% of respondents positively assessed Sanchez’s performance, reports The Jerusalem Post.
Responsibility for the crisis
The survey involved 2,000 people. Morocco is considered the most responsible for the mass border crossings by 89% of respondents. Another 75% placed responsibility on groups involved in the illegal smuggling of people, 74% on the spread of disinformation on social media, 73% on migrants who decided to cross the border, and 72% on the Spanish government.
Two-thirds of survey participants consider Sanchez’s response to the situation too slow. Most respondents also rated his actions during the crisis as poor or very poor.

Changes in electoral sentiment
Combined support for the conservative People’s Party and the far-right Vox party reached 50.2%. This is the first time during the current parliamentary term that a potential right-wing alliance has exceeded the 50% mark in a poll. Support for the centre-left bloc stood at 36.1%.
The People’s Party received 32.4%, compared with 32% in 40dB’s July survey, while Vox received 17.8%, compared with 17.2%. At the same time, support for Sanchez’s Socialist Party fell from 28% to 27.6%. Vox was named the most capable party on immigration issues by 27% of respondents, the Socialists by 18.4%, and the People’s Party by 13.9%.
Attitudes toward border control
Seven out of ten respondents chose stronger border controls over prioritizing the protection of vulnerable migrants. Increasing fences and strengthening surveillance at Spain’s borders were supported by 82% of survey participants.
