MP Awuku urges students to put responsibility above titles — MyJoyOnline
Ghanaian Member of Parliament for the Akuapem North constituency Sammi Awuku urged student leaders to put responsibility above titles. He spoke on September 24 at a The Ladder Project event in the Fountain Area of the University of Professional Studies, Accra. This was reported by MyJoyOnline.
Responsibility instead of titles
According to Awuku, Ghanaian society often focuses excessively on the names of leadership positions, paying less attention to the duties associated with them. He stated that leadership is defined not by the size of a position, but by the responsibility a person is willing to take on.
The MP noted that leadership can be demonstrated through everyday actions: mobilizing people, initiating change, organizing clean-up activities, or taking responsibility in one’s immediate surroundings.

Contribution to Ghana’s future
Awuku also suggested that participants think not only about their current student positions, but also about their long-term contribution to Ghana’s development. He urged them to imagine that in 15 years, communities would ask them what exactly they had helped change in education, healthcare, or other areas.
The event was attended by 60 selected student leaders. It was organized by Leadership House jointly with the Graduate Students Association of Ghana at UPSA and the university’s student representative council. The program included moderated discussions, consideration of case studies, and open interaction.
Awuku was also joined by Akosua Asaa Manu, a public policy and communications specialist and former deputy executive director of the National Youth Authority. The session took place as part of the “Inna the Yard” edition of The Ladder Project.
