Dubai declares 10 days of mourning for Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum — Asharq Al-Awsat
Dubai, United Arab Emirates, has declared 10 days of mourning following the death of Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the younger brother of Dubai’s ruler, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. This was reported by Asharq Al-Awsat.
The office of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, announced Sheikh Ahmed’s death on the morning of September 21. Mourning was declared from Monday, and flags in Dubai were lowered for 10 days.
Dubai’s ruling family
Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum was the son of former Dubai ruler Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, who ruled the emirate from 1958 until his death in 1990. He was Sheikh Rashid’s fourth and youngest son and the younger brother of Dubai’s current ruler.

The deceased served as deputy head of Dubai Police and Public Security. He graduated from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the United Kingdom.
Sports activities
For decades, Sheikh Ahmed was involved in sports, particularly football, horse racing and water sports. He headed Al-Wasl Club for many years.
Sheikh Ahmed also played an important role in the development of horse racing in Dubai, including Jebel Ali Racecourse. In water sports, he contributed to the establishment of the Dubai International Marine Club.
