El-Sayed challenges Vance to a weightlifting contest — The Hill
In the United States, Abdul El-Sayed, the Democratic Party candidate for the Senate from Michigan, challenged Vice President J.D. Vance to a weightlifting contest. He responded this way to Vance's comments about his appearance, including a TikTok joke about the Democrat's “uneven beard,” The Hill reports.
Mutual barbs
In an interview with TMZ DC, El-Sayed mocked the vice president's appearance in response and said he was ready to invite Vance to any gym. He also, without evidence, suggested that Vance may be using testosterone replacement therapy drugs and said that he himself is “natural.”
The candidate stressed that his main complaints about the vice president concern not his appearance but the policies that Vance, in El-Sayed's view, supports despite knowing they are wrong. The Democrat also said that Vance is trying to project toughness but is afraid of President Donald Trump.

The race in Michigan
El-Sayed and Vance have traded insults throughout the midterm election cycle. During a campaign event in August, Vance called the Senate candidate “very, very angry.” Trump had previously called El-Sayed “crazy,” a “jihadist,” and a “communist loser who hates Jews and Israel.”
Responding to Vance's remarks, El-Sayed said that what is evil is starting wars when there is peace, depriving people of health care, and doing so for tax cuts for billionaires. He is competing for the Senate seat against former Republican House member Mike Rogers. Joe Biden won Michigan in 2020, while Trump won it in 2024.
