Tesla CEO Musk calls Xi Jinping a great leader — TimesLIVE

Tesla CEO Elon Musk, in an interview with Chinese state broadcaster CCTV, called Chinese President Xi Jinping a great leader and said that the country had prospered significantly during his time in office.

Assessment of China’s development

Musk linked this assessment to the emergence of new buildings and infrastructure development. He also said that when walking the streets of cities, the growing prosperity of ordinary Chinese citizens is noticeable.

According to TimesLIVE, citing Reuters, Musk was expected to join other executives of US companies at a state dinner at the White House that US President Donald Trump was to host for Xi Jinping. Xi was also to meet with Trump as part of the second summit this year of the leaders of the world’s two largest economies.

Tesla’s Shanghai factory

Separately, Musk praised the team at Tesla’s largest production site in Shanghai, calling it exceptionally talented, hardworking and reliable. He described the Shanghai factory as a jewel of the company.

The Shanghai factory is also Tesla’s largest global export hub. Sales of Model 3 and Model Y vehicles produced there rose by 3.6% year-on-year in August, although the growth rate slowed significantly compared with the previous month.
