UN Secretary-General Admits the Organization Is Completely Powerless to Stop Wars – Associated Press
The United Nations lacks the leverage to promote peace in Ukraine and the Middle East due to geopolitical differences among countries. This was stated by UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
Despite this, the head of the organization emphasized that he steadfastly upholds the UN Charter and the territorial integrity of states, while condemning human rights violations. According to him, the UN does not take a transactional approach to politics, and the Secretary-General does not have his own army or intelligence services; his authority is limited to speaking out publicly on global issues and convening international meetings.
Guterres also noted that the combination of Russia’s war against Ukraine and the conflict in the Middle East is having a dramatic impact on the global economy. In particular, this is leading to rising food and energy prices and higher interest rates, which is creating significant difficulties for developing countries.

The official called on both sides of the conflict to exercise maximum restraint, immediately return to the negotiating table, and put an end to the suffering of the people.
