India sends tunnel rescue team to Nepal
India has sent a tunnel rescue team to Nepal following flash floods in the Bhote-Kosi River area. The team arrived in the country on Saturday, August 29, 2026, to join search-and-rescue operations. India’s Ministry of External Affairs reported this, The Hindu International writes.
Work at hydropower facilities
Rescuers are to assist people who remain trapped at several sites of unfinished hydropower projects. The previous day, on August 28, 2026, India had already sent a reconnaissance team to Nepal for tunnel rescue operations.
After the disaster struck the Bhote-Kosi River area on August 26, India sent three aircraft carrying aid supplies to Nepal.

Missing persons and identification of the deceased
According to India’s Ministry of External Affairs, as of August 29, at least 287 Indian citizens remained missing. Another 128 people of Indian origin were also missing.
Six Indian teams of forensic experts were expected to arrive in Nepal over the weekend. They will work in the affected areas to identify the remains of those killed that are being found after the disaster.
