Iran attacked two vessels belonging to a UAE oil company in the Strait of Hormuz — Reuters
Two vessels belonging to the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) were attacked while passing through the Strait of Hormuz on the evening of August 13. The company itself reported the incident, and the UAE blamed Iran for the attack.
According to ADNOC, there were no casualties, and the situation was brought under control. The UAE called the attack a threat to regional stability and global energy security.
Thursday’s attack was the second such incident involving ADNOC vessels in less than a week. On Saturday, the UAE condemned what it called an Iranian attack on a vessel linked to the state-owned oil company as it was passing through the strait.
ADNOC stated that the situation was under control, according to the WAM news agency.
The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the “hostile Iranian attack” on two ADNOC vessels. It stated that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) had committed “acts of piracy” by targeting commercial shipping and using the strait as a tool for economic pressure or blackmail, posing a direct threat to regional stability and global energy security.
Neither the United Arab Emirates’ Ministry of Foreign Affairs nor the WAM news agency provided detailed information regarding the vessels, their cargoes, or any potential damage. No casualties resulting from the incident were reported.
On Friday, ADNOC stated that it had suffered significant losses as a result of what the company described as unprovoked attacks on its personnel and assets.
ADNOC is Abu Dhabi’s state-owned oil company and one of the world’s largest energy producers, exporting crude oil, natural gas, and petroleum products worldwide.
