Israel has announced a tender for 627 housing units in the settlement of Kochav Yaakov
The Israeli Land Administration has announced a tender for the construction of 627 housing units in the settlement of Kochav Yaakov in the occupied West Bank. This was reported by the Palestinian Commission for Resistance to the Wall and Settlement Expansion (CRRC), according to Al Jazeera English.
The project is planned to be implemented on land in the Ramallah and al-Bireh Governorate. According to the CRRC, the plot covers an area of 253.7 dunams, or 25.37 hectares. Israeli authorities approved the project on April 27, 2025, and bids from construction companies will be accepted until November 30.
The commission noted that the tender moves the project from the planning stage to the marketing and implementation phases. According to CRRC’s assessment, the new development will expand the settlement’s built-up area and strengthen its connections to neighboring settlements and access roads. The commission also stated that the expansion aims to widen the divide between Jerusalem and the Palestinian areas surrounding the city.

Kohav Yaakov is located between the northern part of Jerusalem and the cities of Ramallah and El-Bira. The settlement is part of a group of settlements administered by Israel under the name “Binyamin.”
According to CRRC estimates, in the first half of 2026, Israeli authorities announced 12 tenders for settlement construction, involving 1,138 housing units in five major settlements. Separate tenders were announced for industrial zones, offices, care facilities, and tourist sites.
Since January 2026, Palestinian monitoring organizations have recorded more than 11,000 attacks in the West Bank, which, according to their data, involved Israeli forces and settlers. UN Secretary-General António Guterres has repeatedly stated that Israeli settlements have no legal validity and constitute a gross violation of international law. In its 2024 advisory opinion, the International Court of Justice ruled that Israel’s continued occupation of Palestinian territory is illegal.
