Canada has announced a $633 million military aid package for Ukraine

During a bilateral meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the NATO summit in Ankara, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced the preparation of a new, large-scale package of financial and military support.

According to the Canadian prime minister, the funding is intended for the medium term, meaning the coming months. The package totals 900 million Canadian dollars, equivalent to approximately 633 million U.S. dollars. This aid will include modern air defense systems, various vehicles, ammunition, and other equipment needed on the front lines. During the conversation, Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that a previous shipment of air defense systems from Ottawa had already been successfully delivered to Ukraine.

Mark Carney also emphasized Canada’s long-term commitments, which will include funding for the restoration of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure—which is under constant attack—as well as programs to strengthen Ukraine’s overall economic stability. He assured that international pressure on the aggressor country will only intensify and expressed absolute confidence in Ukraine’s victory.

Nine European Union member states have appealed to the European Commission to authorize, as soon as possible, the purchase of U.S. missiles for Ukraine’s air defense systems using funds from the EU’s 90 billion euro defense package, scheduled for 2026–2027.

As a reminder, the U.S. and its NATO allies plan to establish a Patriot missile maintenance center in Europe.

The American company Lockheed Martin and the German defense conglomerate Rheinmetall have agreed to establish joint production of ATACMS tactical missiles in Europe.
