Kenya confirms first Ebola death — BBC News

Kenya has confirmed the country’s first death from Ebola, BBC News reports. The deceased was a Kenyan citizen who had lived in the Democratic Republic of the Congo for the past seven years.

Patient dies in Nairobi

Kenya’s Health Minister Aden Duale said that the patient fell ill a month ago. According to him, before travelling, the patient had received treatment at several hospitals in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

On Saturday, the patient boarded a plane to Kenya and underwent routine health screening at Nairobi’s main airport. After that, a relative took him to a hospital in the city.

A few days after arriving in the Kenyan capital, the patient died.

Bundibugyo virus confirmed

Tests confirmed a positive result for the Bundibugyo Ebola virus.

More than 4,000 people have died from Ebola in the Democratic Republic of the Congo this year. This outbreak is the second deadliest among known outbreaks of the disease.
