Dassault Aviation Tested Artificial Intelligence on a Rafale Fighter Jet
The French aircraft manufacturer Dassault Aviation conducted flight tests of two artificial intelligence algorithms on a Rafale fighter jet. These technologies could eventually be used to improve the aircraft’s onboard systems.
According to reports, one of the algorithms was developed directly by Dassault Aviation, while the other was created in collaboration with Thales and its subsidiary, cortAIx.
However, the company has not disclosed the specific tasks the algorithms performed during the tests. It has only been noted that the technologies are related to the development of onboard artificial intelligence.
It is expected that such systems will be able to assist the crew by:
- process large amounts of information;
- assess the operational situation;
- make decisions more quickly.
According to the company, the tested algorithms have already reached a level of maturity that makes them viable for consideration in future upgrades of the Rafale fighter jets.
Onboard artificial intelligence could become particularly significant within the framework of the future Rafale F5 standard.
It is being developed with an emphasis on networked interaction and the fighter’s collaboration with unmanned platforms, particularly unmanned reconnaissance aircraft.
Thus, artificial intelligence is viewed as one of the key elements in the Rafale’s further development, designed to expand the aircraft’s capabilities when operating within a unified network with other platforms.
It was previously reported that the French Rafale fighter jet will be equipped with combat artificial intelligence from Harmattan AI. This AI will also be used on Ukrainian Raybird drones manufactured by Skyeton, ensuring system compatibility and increasing operational effectiveness.
