The Kremlin was planning to interfere in the Armenian elections

The "Dossier" Center has published internal documents from Russian political strategists who, according to the investigation, are working with several candidates in Armenia. Their goal is to weaken incumbent Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, who has set a course toward closer ties with the EU.

This is reported by Russian propaganda media.

The documents note that the Kremlin’s initial attempts to back businessman Samvel Karapetyan proved ineffective. Following his arrest, a plan was drawn up to create a new political force, launch media projects, and formulate an alternative security strategy.

Also, in August 2025, according to the investigation, representatives of Armenian political and business circles, as well as Russian political strategists involved in anti-Pashinyan projects, visited the Russian presidential administration.

Following this, Kremlin-linked analytical organizations conducted opinion polls, prepared recommendations for opposition forces, and coordinated information campaigns.

A backup candidate—Arman Tatoyan—is being considered separately, as are information campaigns with the slogans “Anyone but Pashinyan” and “Come out to vote” to boost turnout.

Despite these attempts, support for Nikol Pashinyan rose to 49% in 2026, and his party, the “Civic Contract,” remains in the lead, according to data from the Armenian Election Study.
