Latvia has expanded sanctions to include relatives of Russian officials

Latvia has expanded sanctions to include relatives of Russian officials

The Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has decided to add a number of individuals to the sanctions list, prohibiting them from entering the country.

This was reported by the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Among those subject to the restrictions is Anastasia Karneeva, the daughter of Nikolai Volobuev, deputy director general of Rostec. The decision to add her to the list was made by Latvian Foreign Minister Baiba Braze based on relevant provisions of national immigration law.

Also added to the list of individuals banned from entering Latvia are former Russian Minister of Culture Mikhail Shvidkoi and Katerina Vinokurova, the daughter of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

The Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that the restrictions are indefinite and will remain in effect until a separate decision is made to lift them.

The decision is part of Latvia’s policy to increase sanctions pressure on individuals linked to the Russian state system and its political leadership.

The European Union may impose sanctions against individuals and companies suspected of facilitating the transport of grain exported from the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine to the port of Haifa (Israel).

As a reminder, the European Union has expanded sanctions against Belarus as part of a new, 20th package of restrictions targeting Russia and its allies. The decision affects Belarus’s defense sector, as well as entities that, according to the EU, support Russia’s war against Ukraine. For the first time, a Chinese organization linked to Belarusian military production has also been added to the list.

On April 23, EU member states approved the 20th package of sanctions against Russia, which imposes restrictions on 46 vessels of the “shadow fleet” and 60 entities supporting the Russian military-industrial complex. The new measures include stricter export restrictions on dual-use goods and sanctions against 20 credit and financial institutions.
