Macron and Trump Discussed an Energy Truce Between Ukraine and Russia — Reuters

On September 21, French President Emmanuel Macron discussed with Donald Trump the idea of a moratorium on strikes against the energy infrastructure of Ukraine and Russia. Macron also planned to raise this issue during his meeting with Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

 

French President Emmanuel Macron discussed with U.S. President Donald Trump a possible moratorium on strikes by Ukraine and Russia against energy infrastructure. The leaders paid particular attention to strengthening Ukraine’s air defense. 

Macron told reporters that he had a “very good” and “very constructive” conversation with Trump regarding the Russia-Ukraine war. According to him, the two sides agreed on the need to strengthen Ukraine’s defensive capabilities.

“We had a lengthy discussion about Ukraine and Russia, about the need for faster and more decisive assistance to our Ukrainian friends in terms of interceptors, as this is a key issue from a defense perspective,” Macron said.

The French president did not disclose details of any potential agreements, but confirmed that one of the topics discussed was the idea of halting attacks on energy sector facilities. Macron also plans to discuss this issue during his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

The French president emphasized that supporting Ukraine’s energy system remains a top priority. Macron also expressed hope that progress on this issue would be made during the UN General Assembly.
