Musk will join a Pentagon project to study the future of war
American billionaire Elon Musk will join a new Pentagon-affiliated body tasked with studying future methods of warfare and identifying technologies for the next generation of war. UA.NEWS was informed of this by its own sources at the Pentagon.
The initiative in question is Project Meridian, which was unveiled on September 30 by U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hagseth. Along with Musk, Palmer Lucky, founder of the defense company Anduril, and former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich will participate in the project.
The project’s goal is to identify the capabilities the United States needs to maintain its technological edge on the battlefield of the future. The study is expected to last 120 days, after which the Pentagon plans to release an unclassified report with recommendations.
The initiative will focus particularly on the rapid development of artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, robotics, directed energy, and biotechnology. The Pentagon believes that the combination of these technologies could significantly change the nature of future combat operations.
At the same time, the Pentagon announced the creation of a separate Autonomous Warfare Command—a new four-star command tasked with coordinating the development and large-scale deployment of autonomous and semi-autonomous systems, including drones, robotic platforms, and control systems. It is scheduled to be launched by October 2027.
Thus, Musk’s involvement is directly linked to Project Meridian, while the new Autonomous Warfare Command will have a separate military command structure. The Pentagon views both initiatives as part of a broader restructuring of the U.S. approach to the development of military technologies.
