Musk accused Soros of seizing power in Hungary following Orbán's defeat
American billionaire Elon Musk claimed that financier George Soros’s organization had effectively “seized” power in Hungary.
This reaction was prompted by the results of the parliamentary elections, in which Viktor Orbán, a longtime ally of the Kremlin, suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of the opposition party “Tisa.”
Musk left his comment on social media platform X under a post by Alexander Soros, the son of the renowned philanthropist.
Soros Jr. congratulated Hungarians on the fact that the people “took back their country,” calling the election results a decisive rejection of corruption and foreign interference.
The parliamentary elections held on April 12 radically changed the country’s political landscape.
With nearly 99% of the votes counted, the right-wing liberal party “Tisza,” led by Péter Magyar, won 138 of the 199 seats in the National Assembly, securing a constitutional majority.
“Orbán was one of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s last allies,” observers note, emphasizing the importance of these changes for European security.
The ruling Fidesz coalition, which previously held 135 seats, managed to secure only 56 seats in parliament this time.
Viktor Orbán has already officially conceded defeat and congratulated his opponents on their victory.
He has served as prime minister continuously since 2010, during which time he has earned a reputation as a politician who systematically obstructed sanctions against Russia and blocked financial aid for Ukraine.
The change of power in Budapest opens up new prospects for European Union unity.
The new government, led by Péter Magyar, is expected to end the country’s energy dependence on Russian oil and gas supplied via the Druzhba pipeline.
