Meloni stated that Putin is provoking Europe to divert attention from the front lines
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni stated that Russia is increasingly provoking Ukraine’s European allies in order to divert attention from the situation on the battlefield.
According to Meloni, Moscow is seeking to escalate tensions with Europe because the situation on the front lines is not unfolding as Vladimir Putin had previously claimed. She also urged Ukraine’s allies not to fall for these provocations.
At the same time, Meloni emphasized that Ukraine’s allies should not react to such actions by Russia.
“Provocations from Moscow are increasing because Putin needs to divert attention—by seeking to escalate the conflict with Europe—from the situation on the battlefield, which is not unfolding as he promised. We must ask ourselves who stands to gain from an escalation and act accordingly. We must not react to provocations; this will benefit Russia more than it will benefit Europe,” she emphasized.
The Italian prime minister made these remarks after a meeting with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gar Støre in Oslo, according to ANSA.
Putin stated that the deployment of European troops in Ukraine would mean war with Russia.
Putin told Trump that Russia has no aggressive plans toward Europe.
Talks took place in Kyiv between President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and U.S. presidential representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
The part of Donbas controlled by Ukraine remains a key obstacle and the main “red line” in the negotiation process aimed at ending the war. Despite the visit to Kyiv by U.S. President’s Special Envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner with updated peace proposals, differences regarding the future of this region remain fundamental. Zelenskyy told Witkoff that he would not cede any territory to Russia under any circumstances.
Following the meeting in Kyiv, Witkoff announced peace talks in a Ukraine-Europe-U.S. format.
In addition to issues regarding the cessation of hostilities and security guarantees, the parties discussed the country’s post-war recovery and the mobilization of resources for reconstruction, as well as economic guarantees designed to prevent the outbreak of another war.
