Argentine President Javier Milei announced that he will sign a decree intended to speed up the introduction of sanctions against companies involved in oil exploration in the Falkland Islands. The decision aims to limit the activities of businesses operating on the islands without Argentina’s approval, YLE News reports.

Milei announced his intention to sign the decree in a televised address on Thursday evening local time. The document concerns companies involved in oil exploration in the Falkland Islands.
Argentina considers the archipelago to be its territory and calls it the Malvinas Islands. The Falkland Islands are located approximately 500 kilometers off the coast of Argentina.
Dispute with the United Kingdom
The United Kingdom and Argentina have disputed control of the islands for centuries. The United Kingdom won the 1982 Falklands War.
