Modi calls for reforming global governance at BRICS summit in India
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said at the BRICS summit in New Delhi that Global South countries should not only be participants in international organizations, but should also take part in making global decisions. He also proposed preparing a roadmap for reforming global governance by the next summit of the group.
BRICS reform roadmap
According to NDTV World, Modi proposed developing ten proposals to shape a BRICS reform roadmap. In his view, the document should be based on three main principles: representation, the ability to respond to challenges, and participation in rule-making.
According to the Indian prime minister, the Global South is in the front row of global organizations, yet remains behind when decisions are made. He called for transforming the pyramid of privileges into a platform of partnership, where every country would have a voice, every participant would have a stake, and humanity’s progress would be at the center of activities.

Reform of the UN and financial institutions
Modi stressed that reform of the UN Security Council can no longer be postponed. According to him, text-based negotiations on this issue should be linked to clear timelines and concrete outcomes.
He also spoke in favor of changes to international financial institutions. In the Indian prime minister’s view, voting shares, leadership positions, and policy priorities in these structures should reflect modern economic realities.
