An investigation is underway in the Kharkiv region into the death of a police officer during a race
Law enforcement officials have launched an investigation following the death of a police officer during the “I Honor the Warriors, I Run for the Heroes of Ukraine” race in the Kharkiv region. On August 29, a Russian “Iskander-M” missile struck Nataline in the Berestynsky District, where the event was taking place. One person was killed, and two others were injured.
Investigators have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the police officer’s death during the annual run honoring fallen Ukrainian soldiers. The event in question was “I Honor the Soldiers, I Run for the Heroes of Ukraine,” which took place on August 29 in the village of Nataline in the Berestynsky District of Kharkiv Oblast. During the race, Russian troops launched a missile strike on the village.
According to police, the Russians used an “Iskander-M” missile in the attack. The police officer was killed as a result of the strike. Two other people were injured. On August 30, investigators entered information about the incident into the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations. Proceedings were opened under Part 3 of Article 367 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—official negligence.
Law enforcement officials must now establish all the circumstances surrounding the event and determine whether those responsible for organizing it committed any violations. According to police, the race was organized by the Natalynska Rural Military Administration. The investigation must examine, in particular, how the decision to hold the event was made, whether the security situation in the region was taken into account, and what measures were in place to ensure the safety of participants.
At the same time, the mere opening of criminal proceedings does not mean that those responsible have already been identified. Final conclusions regarding whether official negligence occurred must be made by investigators and the court. The “I Honor the Soldiers, I Run for the Heroes of Ukraine” race is held annually. Its participants run the course to honor the memory of Ukrainian servicemen who died defending Ukraine.
This year’s event in the Kharkiv region ended in tragedy due to a Russian missile strike. Law enforcement officials continue to gather evidence and establish all the details of the incident. This was reported by the communications department of the National Police Main Directorate in the Kharkiv region.
Over the past 24 hours, Russian troops attacked Kharkiv and 14 other settlements in the region. As a result of the shelling, eight people were affected, including four who sustained injuries; the others experienced acute stress reactions.
Over the past 24 hours, Russian troops launched massive attacks on the Kherson region. As a result of the strikes, three people were killed, 17 others were injured, and residential buildings, vehicles, and infrastructure were damaged.
Since the evening, Russian troops have attacked the Dnipropetrovsk region more than 20 times with drones and artillery. Four districts came under fire; a business, a private home, a supermarket, a gas station, and garages were damaged.
In Kyiv’s Holosiivskyi district, the roof of a non-residential building caught fire after debris from a drone fell on it. Emergency services are already on their way to the scene.
Russian troops attacked Zaporizhzhia on the morning of August 30. A fire broke out after a strike on warehouse facilities, but no one was injured.
