NATO has a plan to attack Kaliningrad in the event of a Russian attack on the Baltic states

NATO has a plan to attack Kaliningrad in the event of a Russian attack on the Baltic states

NATO countries have developed a “Land Warfare Concept” in case of a possible Russian attack on the Baltic states, according to Bild. The plan calls for halting the advance of Russian troops, weakening their military capabilities, and pushing them back to the national border.

The deterrence plan is based on three key strategies and makes extensive use of innovative unmanned technologies, according to the German publication BILD.

If the Russian army launches a massive barrage of missiles and drones against the Baltic states while simultaneously advancing armored vehicles, NATO’s first step will be to completely neutralize the missile threats.

The alliance’s fighter jets, missile carriers, and strike drones will be tasked with taking out key Russian fire positions. Kaliningrad, where a large number of anti-aircraft and missile systems are concentrated, is named as one of the top priority targets in this scenario.

To contain enemy ground forces along the borders with Russia and Belarus, a so-called autonomous zone is being created to serve as a protective barrier.

No NATO soldiers will be deployed inside the perimeter. Combat missions to detect and destroy advancing military equipment will rely entirely on autonomous drones and robotic military platforms.

The next stage of the strategy involves operations directly on Russian territory to disrupt logistics and troop supply lines. Special operations units are tasked with neutralizing critical infrastructure—arms factories, airfields, bridges, and railway hubs. It is planned to involve Russians who oppose the current regime in these operations.

NATO aircraft will deliver combat robots and drones deep into enemy territory, with the mission of destroying military bases and airfields.

NATO emphasizes that the alliance’s goal is not to conquer Russian territories, but solely to defend the members of the military bloc. The alliance deliberately does not keep this concept a closely guarded secret, guided by the principle that effective deterrence works only when a potential aggressor knows in advance the scale of the inevitable response.

A spokesperson for the U.S. Department of Defense clarified that the presented concept for preventing ground conflicts is the result of months of work by planners across the alliance, aimed at the large-scale use of sensors and the rapid detection of threats. The Pentagon also noted that any reports of specific combat operations at this stage are purely speculative.

As a reminder, NATO fighter jets shot down a drone in Latvian airspace.

On August 14, Latvian Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs commented on the incident involving a drone that violated the country’s airspace. According to him, the incident confirmed the effectiveness of Latvia’s air defense system.
