Netanyahu backs Trump’s Gaza peace plan

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced his support for Donald Trump’s peace plan aimed at ending the nearly two-year war with Hamas in Gaza. The plan calls for an immediate ceasefire and the release of all hostages within 72 hours after Israel’s formal acceptance. Trump described the initiative as his “crowning achievement,” highlighting its potential to end decades of bloodshed.

Under the proposal, Hamas would be disarmed, with its members granted amnesty if they commit to peaceful coexistence. Gaza would be administered by a technocratic Palestinian committee under international supervision, with Trump chairing a new transitional body. Other global leaders, including former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, would join the oversight board.
In exchange, Israel agreed to release 250 Palestinian prisoners, along with more than 1,700 Gazans detained after the October 7, 2023 attack. The plan has been welcomed by Arab and Muslim nations, which have long urged US leadership in post-war settlement efforts for the region.
