An unidentified drone flew into Moldova and Romania
On August 24, an unidentified drone entered Moldovan airspace from the direction of the Odesa region and exited 14 minutes later, heading toward Romania. Due to the incident, Moldova restricted access to its airspace for 15 minutes, and Romania scrambled two F-16s and a helicopter.
According to the Moldovan Ministry of Defense, the drone entered the country’s airspace at 5:55 a.m. It came from the direction of the village of Vynohradivka in the Odesa region and headed toward Vulcanesti in Gagauzia.
At 06:09, the drone was detected as it exited Moldovan airspace. It left the country near the village of Pashkani in the Cahul District and set course for Romania, heading toward the town of Vedești.
The origin of the drone has not yet been determined. The Moldovan Ministry of Defense noted that the violation occurred following overnight Russian attacks on Ukraine.
Due to the drone’s appearance in southern Moldova, airspace restrictions were imposed for 15 minutes.
At around 6:00 a.m., the Romanian Ministry of Defense detected intermittent signals in Moldovan airspace near Cahul. Later, one of the signals appeared near Târgu Bujor in the Romanian county of Galați.
To monitor the situation, Romania scrambled:
- two F-16 fighter jets;
- an IAR-330 SOCAT helicopter.
At 6:12 a.m., a warning was also issued in the affected area via the RO-Alert system.
The Romanian Ministry of Defense stated that additional information would be released depending on how the situation develops.

As a reminder, on Sunday, August 2, air raid sirens were sounded for the civilian population in eastern Romania for the second time that day. The country’s Ministry of Defense radar surveillance system detected an aerial target near the river border with Ukraine at 3:09 p.m.
In Poland, during a massive Russian missile attack on Ukraine on the night of July 29, an air raid alert was issued in part of the Lublin Voivodeship. After the alert ended, a crater approximately 10 meters in diameter and debris from an unidentified object were discovered in a field near the villages of Tarnava-Kolonia and Tokary.
