Germany is demanding an explanation from Hungary over a possible leak of EU data to Russia
The German government has called on Hungary to provide an explanation regarding allegations of a possible leak of confidential European Union information to Russia.
This was stated by a spokesperson for the German Foreign Ministry, according to DPA.
The matter concerns a report stating that Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó may have passed on details of closed-door EU discussions to Moscow.
The spokesperson for the German Foreign Ministry emphasized that such allegations are “very, very serious.”
He stressed that discussions between EU member states and foreign ministers are confidential and based on the principles of trust and sincere cooperation.
“We will not tolerate any violation of these principles. Now the Hungarian government must respond,” the spokesperson said.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk officially stated that reports of the Hungarian government sharing details of closed-door European Council negotiations with Russia came as no surprise to European leaders.
