Origin Energy: A hacker obtained the full account numbers of up to 60 customers
Origin Energy reported that during a data breach in July, a hacker gained access to the full bank account numbers of up to 60 customers. This was reported by ABC News Australia.
Last month, Origin confirmed a large-scale cybersecurity breach that affected approximately 900,000 current and former customers of the company. According to Origin, various combinations of customers’ personal information were accessed as part of this incident.
Among the exposed data, the company listed names, addresses, dates of birth, contact phone numbers, account details, and other information about customers’ personal circumstances. The breach also included the last four digits of credit card numbers or the last three digits of bank account numbers.

Origin also confirmed that numbers associated with government benefit schemes or programs were compromised. This affects a total of approximately 15,000 customers.
Origin Energy CEO Frank Calabria stated that a criminal investigation into the data breach is ongoing.
