Palestine welcomes BRICS summit declaration on Palestinian rights
Palestine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed the declaration of the BRICS summit in New Delhi, India, stating that its provisions support the rights of the Palestinian people and the Palestinian cause. This was reported by Anadolu Agency.
The Palestinian Foreign Ministry praised the rejection of attempts to forcibly displace Palestinians from their lands, including from Jerusalem. The ministry also noted calls to end the Israeli occupation, support for the two-state principle and for the State of Palestine’s full membership in the UN.
Provisions of the declaration
The Palestinian foreign ministry also welcomed support for the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, UNRWA, and its mandate. Among the important points of the declaration, it cited the protection of holy sites and ensuring access to them in Jerusalem, protection of the Palestinian population, and the unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.

Palestine’s Foreign Ministry stated that BRICS’ positions are in line with international law and relevant UN resolutions, stressing the need for practical and concrete steps. The ministry called on the international community to implement international resolutions in order to end what it described as violations, forced displacement of the population, settlement expansion and annexation, as well as to ensure that Palestinians can exercise their right to self-determination.
Call to preserve the ceasefire
In the summit’s final declaration, BRICS leaders spoke out against the forced displacement of Palestinians from Gaza and the occupied West Bank. Participants also called on all parties to preserve the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and ensure the full and unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid.
The document calls for respecting UN Security Council resolutions on Gaza. The authors of the declaration expressed concern over the persistence of violence in the region despite the ceasefire reached in October and called for an end to policies aimed at forcibly displacing Palestinians. The declaration also reaffirmed support for the State of Palestine’s full membership in the UN.
