Parking lots at Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport are full — Jerusalem Post

All parking lots at Ben Gurion Airport in Israel are full due to a significant increase in passenger traffic during the High Holy Days. The Israel Airports Authority urged passengers and those accompanying them not to travel to the airport by private car and to use public transportation.

The restrictions will remain in effect until further notice. As the Jerusalem Post reports, a space in the airport’s long-term parking lot cannot be reserved in advance: vehicles are admitted only if spaces are available.

Problem during peak periods

This is not the first time Ben Gurion’s parking lots have reached full capacity. In August, when approximately 101,000 passengers passed through the airport in one day, the Kerem and Pardes parking lots were completely full. At the time, passengers were advised to use other parking lots.

The current situation emerged at the peak of the holiday season. Passengers traveling to the airport in their own cars cannot find out in advance whether a parking space will be available until they arrive at the airport.

Public transport restrictions

Public transport recommended by the Airports Authority also has restrictions during the holidays. Train schedules change, while rail services do not operate on weekends and holidays. For example, during Rosh Hashanah, trains ran between Herzliya and Jerusalem without stopping at Ben Gurion Airport.

When trains are not operating, one option is Egged’s 24-hour Route 485 bus service between Tel Aviv’s central bus station and the airport. According to the publication, passengers who arrived at Ben Gurion in recent days also reported long taxi queues, conflicts with drivers, and a shortage of available cars.
