PiS has decided to expel 40 lawmakers from Morawiecki's faction
Poland’s largest opposition party, Law and Justice (PiS), has decided to expel 40 of its lawmakers who formed a separate parliamentary group led by former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki. This was reported by Notes from Poland.
PiS disciplinary representative Karol Karski stated that the party’s disciplinary court had determined that 38 Sejm deputies and two senators had seriously violated the party’s charter by by leaving the PiS parliamentary group and joining the new “Development Plus” (Rozwój Plus) group founded by Morawiecki.
All 40 politicians, including Morawiecki, received notification of the decision via email along with copies of the ruling. They have seven days to appeal the decision. According to Karski, if no appeals are filed, the lawmakers’ membership in PiS will be officially terminated.

The disciplinary court also pointed to a separate serious violation of the party’s charter by Morawiecki. The reason was his statement last week that “Rozwój Plus” would become a political party.
Among those who are to be expelled are former ministers Janusz Cieszyński, Paweł Jabłoński, Olga Semenyuk-Patkowska, and Szymon Szynkowski vel Senk. Former Minister Grzegorz Puda told the newspaper Fakt that PiS is expelling someone who sought to broaden the party’s electoral base. Another politician, Lukasz Schreiber, told Onet that the decision had actually been made back in July, when PiS leader Jarosław Kaczyński stated that Morawiecki’s supporters had effectively resigned by refusing to sign a loyalty pledge.
Morawiecki and his supporters refused to leave the bloc they had created and to sign the loyalty pledge, after which they formed their own parliamentary group. It immediately became the third-largest group in the Polish parliament, and PiS lost its status as the largest parliamentary group. According to the eWybory.eu polling aggregator, “Development Plus” enjoys an average support of 5.6% in polls, while PiS’s rating has dropped from 24.4% in July to 20.3%.
