Poland summons Russian ambassador in solidarity with Germany

Poland’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the ambassador of Russia, the aggressor state, in Warsaw, Georgy Mikhnо, to express its disagreement with the escalation of Moscow’s aggressive actions and solidarity with Germany. Polish Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maciej Wewiór confirmed the diplomat’s summons to the Polish Press Agency PAP, Notes from Poland reports.

Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski said that Warsaw had expressed its firm condemnation of state terrorism, which, according to him, Russia is carrying out. He stressed that the problem of one ally is a problem for the entire Alliance and called Putin’s Russia one of the most serious security threats to Europe and the world order.

Events in Germany

The German government said on Tuesday that it considers Russia responsible for an attempted drone attack on Leipzig Airport the previous month. In response, Berlin ordered the closure of the Russian consulate in Bonn and the Russian cultural center in Berlin.

This week, attempted sabotage of the power grid also occurred at two locations in Germany. Investigations into these incidents are ongoing. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk suggested that the incidents could be part of Russia’s escalating actions in the region.

Warsaw’s position and Moscow’s response

After a meeting with his German and French counterparts, Sikorski said that Poland supports the German government’s response and decisions regarding Russia’s aggressive actions in that country. He added that Warsaw does not agree to the impunity of testing its borders or hostile actions on its territory.

Russia denied involvement in the Leipzig incident, calling it a fabricated provocation. Moscow also announced the closure of German cultural centers in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Yekaterinburg in response to Berlin’s decision.

Earlier, Poland gradually closed all Russian consulates in the country, after which Moscow took similar measures against Polish consulates on its territory. After a fire at a drone factory in Poland, Tusk said that the blaze was deliberate and suggested that it was likely organized on behalf of Russia.
