Poland closed two airports due to the Russian attack on Ukraine
On the morning of September 16, operations at the Rzeszów and Lublin airports in Poland were suspended amid a Russian airstrike on western regions of Ukraine. Air raid alerts were declared in several districts of two voivodeships, and military aircraft were scrambled.
Around 8 a.m., the Polish Armed Forces Operational Command issued a statement announcing that, due to the presence of Russian attack drones in western Ukraine, Polish aircraft were being scrambled and ground forces were being placed on high alert.
Shortly after 8 a.m., an air raid alert was declared for units in the Podkarpackie and Lubelskie provinces—including the border towns of Przemyśl, Rzeszów, and Lublin.
Operations at the airports in Lublin and Rzeszów have also been suspended.
Shortly before 8 a.m., the Ukrainian Air Force reported the movement of Russian jet drones toward western Ukraine; one such drone was detected near Kovel.

As a reminder, air defense forces in the Kyiv region engaged Russian drones.
Earlier, three Ukrainians fighting for Russia were captured in Chasov Yar.
On September 15, a Russian drone strike was recorded in the Svyatoshynsky district of Kyiv.
