President Lee rules out South Korea’s involvement in Middle East war — Korea Herald
South Korean President Lee Jae Myung stated that the country will not take direct or indirect part in the war in the Middle East. Any actions by Seoul will not be connected to combat operations, Korea Herald reports.
Deployment of troops ruled out
During a press conference, Lee answered questions about the possible deployment of military personnel to the Strait of Hormuz. According to him, South Korea will not send troops to participate in or intervene in the war.
The president stressed that the country has adhered to the principle of non-interference in combat operations and will continue to do so.

Protection of vessels and routes
At the same time, Lee described the situation as complex and dynamic. He stated that South Korea must protect the lives of its citizens, commercial vessels and crude oil transportation routes.
According to the president, the Cheonghae Unit is ready to protect national interests. He also confirmed that the authorities are considering strengthening such measures.
As the publication writes, the United States had been increasing pressure on Seoul to support the war against Iran, particularly regarding the Strait of Hormuz. The Korean government stated that no decision had yet been made on the possible deployment of troops or military assets.
