President Pezeshkian calls negotiations with US meaningless — NDTV

In Iran, President Masoud Pezeshkian said that negotiations with the United States are meaningless. According to him, after the talks, the United States attacked Iran three times. This was reported by NDTV, citing Iran's state-run IRNA news agency.

Iranian president's statement

Pezeshkian said that these attacks, in his view, demonstrate Washington's unwillingness to engage in dialogue. He also claimed that the United States seeks to overthrow the Islamic Republic of Iran and accused the American side of using sanctions, pressure, threats and violating commitments.

According to the outlet, negotiations between Tehran and Washington over Iran's nuclear program were underway when, in late February, the United States and Israel launched a series of surprise attacks on Iran. In June, the sides agreed on a memorandum of understanding that outlined a framework for a permanent settlement of the conflict.

Negotiations remain deadlocked

After Iranian attacks on vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, the United States returned to military operations, NDTV writes. Since then, negotiations have effectively reached a deadlock, while recent indirect contacts on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly produced no results.

In recent weeks, Washington has scaled back military operations in favor of economic pressure and has not struck Iran since September 1. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that the conflict cannot be resolved through military means or new sanctions, and that only negotiations based on fairness can end it.

The United States and Israel have said that the war is necessary to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, which Tehran denies. According to the British maritime agency UKMTO, a tanker was attacked in the Strait of Hormuz on Sunday, while another vessel turned back on Monday after a threat of attack from Iranian forces.
