President Pezeshkian says Iran is ready for a deal with the US — Anadolu Agency

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said that Tehran does not seek war with the United States and is ready to continue moving toward an agreement with Washington. He said this in an interview with Fox News, Anadolu Agency reports.

Answering a question about whether Iran chooses war or an agreement, Pezeshkian said that his country does not choose the war that, according to him, was imposed on it. He added that Iran had reached an agreement with US President Donald Trump and remains ready to move forward on its basis.

Memorandum and the nuclear issue

Pezeshkian referred to a June memorandum that provided for the conclusion of a final peace agreement within 60 days. According to the agency, the agreement collapsed because of differences over navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.

Asked about giving up uranium enriched to 60%, the Iranian president replied that the country would fulfill its obligations within the framework of international law and the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons.

Relations with groups

Pezeshkian also said that Yemen’s Houthis act independently and do not receive instructions from Tehran. He rejected claims that Iran had closed the Strait of Hormuz.

In addition, Pezeshkian said that nearly a month ago he personally met with Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei and spent about seven hours with him. Answering a question about his health and ability to govern the country, he said that Khamenei is completely healthy and able to perform his duties.
