President Trump announces $90 payments for 20 million Medicare participants — The Hill

In the United States, the administration of President Donald Trump has announced one-time payments of $90 to more than 20 million older Medicare participants. The funds are intended to partially compensate for the cost of monthly Medicare Part B premiums, The Hill reports.

Payments from the Medicare fund

The total amount of the payments will be approximately $2 billion. According to a White House fact sheet, the money will be transferred once through direct deposits at the beginning of the month.

The funding will be provided from the Medicare Improvement Fund, which the U.S. Congress created in 2008 to improve the fee-for-service Medicare system. In a Truth Social post, Trump called the fund meaningless and said that using it together with most-favored-nation agreements would help substantially reduce costs for older Americans.

Premium cost and campaign promise

The standard monthly Medicare Part B premium in 2026 is $202.90, Medicare notes. The announcement came ahead of the midterm congressional elections, in which the Republican Party seeks to retain control of both chambers.

Trump also reiterated a promise made at the Republican Party convention last month: to pay $5,000 to every adult in the United States if Republicans retain majorities in both chambers of Congress after the elections.
