Ghana’s teacher unions to hold talks with government over strike — MyJoyOnline

In Ghana, teacher unions that have declared a nationwide strike will hold talks with the government on September 28 over unresolved employment conditions issues. The meeting is intended as a new attempt to resolve the dispute and create conditions for ending the strike.

Union demands

The National Association of Graduate Teachers, the Ghana National Association of Teachers, and the Coalition of Concerned Teachers Ghana have gone on strike. They demand that teachers be paid arrears related to promotions and that the prolonged negotiations on employment conditions be concluded.

The unions insist on the urgent consideration of these issues and call on the authorities to settle the arrears and complete the negotiation process.

Readiness for dialogue

Jacob Anaba, president of the National Association of Graduate Teachers, said the unions were ready to take part in the talks if they offered a real opportunity to address the causes of the strike. According to him, he was informed about the planned meeting by the chief director of the Ministry of Employment, Labour and Labour Relations.

Possible end to the strike
