Putin plans to interfere in elections in EU countries to weaken support for Ukraine
Russian dictator Vladimir Putin plans to interfere in electoral processes in European Union countries in 2027 to support politicians who are favorable to Moscow. The Kremlin expects that once such forces come to power, they will be able to influence EU policy toward Russia and further aid to Ukraine.
According to Kovalenko, Moscow is already planning to use upcoming election campaigns in European countries to promote political forces and individual candidates whose positions align with the Kremlin’s interests.
“Putin plans to interfere in elections in EU countries in 2027 with the aim of supporting politicians favorable to Moscow who, according to the Kremlin’s plan, are supposed to influence the European Union’s political stance on relations with Moscow and support for Ukraine,” Kovalenko stated.
Thus, the Center for Political Analysis believes that upcoming elections in EU countries could become a target of Russian influence aimed at changing European states’ stance toward Moscow.
The head of the CSD also stated that the Russian dictator has no intention of ending the war against Ukraine in the near future.
“Putin also does not want to end the war in either 2026 or 2027,” Kovalenko noted.
According to him, this means that the Kremlin’s plans regarding European elections may be directly linked to the EU’s future policy toward Russia and the level of support for Ukraine.
Previously, the future of the “coalition of the willing,” which coordinates support for Ukraine, had raised concerns among Western diplomats.
The reason cited was upcoming political changes in European countries, which could lead to a change in the current leadership and weaken the role of the coalition’s key leaders.
