Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson rejects claims of development at Global South’s expense
In China, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said that claims that Beijing is allegedly focused only on its own development at the expense of other Global South countries “find no support.” She made the remarks at a regular press conference on September 9, 2026, ECNS reports.
Response to media allegations
Mao Ning commented on claims by some foreign media outlets that China allegedly pursues its own development to the detriment of other Global South states. According to her, China does not “pull up the ladder” for any country’s development but instead seeks to create opportunities for such development.
She named the Belt and Road Initiative, technology exchanges and zero tariffs among the areas of such work.

Statements on cooperation
According to Mao Ning, China supplies affordable industrial equipment and technological products, shares experience and technology, and helps Global South countries reduce the costs of industrial development.
She also said that the basis of China’s international cooperation is helping other countries achieve success while pursuing its own goals. The spokesperson added that China, according to her, will adhere to mutual benefit and shared development, remain a reliable partner of Global South countries and promote their revitalization through its own development.
