South Korean President Lee Jae-myung’s approval rating falls to 37.4% — Korea Herald
In South Korea, President Lee Jae-myung’s approval rating has fallen to a new low of 37.4%. This is the eighth consecutive week in which the level of support for the head of state has declined.
Poll results
As Korea Herald reports, the survey was conducted by Realmeter on behalf of the EKN newspaper among 2,510 adult respondents from Monday through Friday. Lee’s rating decreased by 1.5 percentage points compared with the previous week.
The share of those who disapprove of the president’s performance increased by 0.8 percentage points to 59.5%. The study’s margin of error was plus or minus 2 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.

Reasons for the decline and party ratings
Realmeter linked the decline in the rating to controversies surrounding recent personnel changes in the government and the authorities’ abandonment of a plan to reduce the basic deduction for owners of a single home who do not live in it.
Lee’s nomination of ruling Democratic Party lawmaker Kim Seung-won for the post of justice minister was also criticized by the main opposition People Power Party. The opposition said the nomination was intended to help secure the dismissal of criminal charges against the president.
In a separate Realmeter poll, support for the Democratic Party decreased by 1.3 percentage points to 41.8%, while support for the People Power Party fell by 0.1 percentage points to 37.6%. In the survey conducted on Thursday and Friday among 1,001 people aged 18 and over, the margin of error was plus or minus 3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.
