Russia plans to import jet fuel from Japan

Russia plans to import jet fuel from Japan

Russia plans to purchase a shipment of jet fuel from Japan through intermediaries to mitigate the effects of the fuel crisis.

According to Reuters, at least 200,000 barrels of jet fuel are scheduled to be shipped from the Japanese city of Chiba in the first half of July.

The agency’s sources say the cargo will first be delivered to the South Korean port of Yeosu, where it will be transferred to another tanker. The final destination of the shipment is currently unknown.

According to Kpler, the last similar shipment took place in February 2022, when 22,000 barrels of jet fuel were delivered to Vladivostok from Yeosu, South Korea.

Reuters notes that the Russian Ministry of Energy, as well as the relevant ministries in Japan and South Korea, did not respond to requests for comment on this information.

Amid a fuel shortage, Russia has already increased its gasoline imports. In particular, Belarus has significantly ramped up rail shipments of gasoline and diesel fuel, and maritime shipments of gasoline from India have also begun. In addition, according to Reuters, Moscow requested that Kazakhstan supply approximately 50,000 metric tons of gasoline, but the Kazakh side stated that it had not received such a request.
