An autopsy revealed the cause of death of actress Hayden Panettiere
According to the Greenville County coroner, the actress's death was accidental. The autopsy results showed that Hayden Panettiere died from the toxic effects of fentanyl, Xanax, and several other medications.
Panettiere, best known for her roles in the TV series "Heroes" and "Nashville," died in mid-August at the age of 36. She had been open about her struggles with drug and alcohol addiction.
Panettiere was the former fiancée of Ukrainian boxer and former world champion Wladimir Klitschko and the mother of his daughter.
The coroner for Greenville County in South Carolina determined that the actress’s death was the result of an accident, and no injuries were found on her body that could have contributed to her death.
Pathologists also found that Panettiere’s blood contained mecarbamol (a muscle relaxant that reduces muscle tone) as well as quetiapine—an antipsychotic medication used to treat certain mental illnesses.
Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid whose use has caused the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Americans in the last five years alone.
The coroner’s office reported that emergency responders attempted to resuscitate the actress and restore her heartbeat, but these efforts were unsuccessful.
It is reported that the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration will participate in the investigation into Panettiere’s death.
