Rubio spoke about the activities of Iran's supreme leader

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei is alive and continues to interact with those around him, although he does so cautiously and primarily through written messages and intermediaries. Officials in Washington note that his activity has been increasing recently.

At the same time, his communication channels remain closed, and, according to Rubio, a public appearance could be dangerous for the Iranian leadership.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated during his address to the committee that Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei remains alive and, despite his limited public presence, is gradually intensifying his interaction with his political and administrative entourage, using primarily closed channels of communication.

According to Rubio, the situation within Iran’s power structure is forcing its key figures to avoid the public eye, as domestic political risks for them remain high. “I believe, given what has happened to many leaders in this system, that taking a public stance is likely not advisable for them within the country,” he noted.

At the same time, the Secretary of State emphasized that despite this secrecy, there are signs that Khamenei is increasingly involved in decision-making processes, although his interactions are indirect. “But, nevertheless, I think there are signs that he is increasingly active at some level, although all his communications have been in writing and through intermediaries,” Rubio added.

In the U.S., such signals are viewed as confirmation that Iran’s leadership continues to function, albeit in the most closed-off manner possible, adapted to internal and external risks. This is reported by The Guardian.
