US Senator Tuberville Claims Without Evidence That Furries Work in Aviation — Rolling Stone

In the United States, Alabama Senator Tommy Tuberville said during a speech at the Capitol that members of the furry community allegedly work as pilots, flight attendants and air traffic controllers. As Rolling Stone reports, the politician provided no evidence to support this claim.

Tuberville called such a possibility frightening and suggested that a commercial flight pilot could have a fetish for dressing up as an animal. His speech lasted nearly 20 minutes.

Rolling Stone described the speech as containing disinformation about transgender people, as well as calls to restore psychiatric institutions as a customary part of society. The publication also writes that Tuberville is not the first Republican Party representative to focus on the furry community in the context of a campaign against transgender people and policies concerning LGBTQ+ rights.

The senator, who previously coached college American football, is running for governor of Alabama in the general election on November 3.

Democrat's reaction

Democratic candidate for governor Doug Jones, responding to Tuberville's speech, said it was the strangest speech at a US Senate session he had ever heard. Rolling Stone also recalled that in 2022, right-wing politicians spread a debunked claim that students had allegedly requested litter boxes for animals to be installed in classrooms.
