Sweden is preparing to transfer Gripen fighter jets to Ukraine
The Swedish government plans to transfer several Gripen fighter jets to Ukraine. The aircraft in question are the Gripen C and Gripen D variants.
This was reported by the Sweden Herald.
According to journalists, Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson called a press conference on May 28 at the Uppsala Air Base, where “news related to international cooperation in aviation” is expected to be announced.
In addition to the transfer of Gripen C and D aircraft, the parties are also reportedly preparing for negotiations regarding the possible supply of the latest Gripen E fighters to Ukraine.
It is noted that the purchase could be financed through European Union loans.
Last year, Ukraine and Sweden signed a letter of intent that provides for the possibility of concluding an agreement to supply between 100 and 150 Gripen fighter jets in the future.
The Gripen is considered one of the most modern European multi-role fighter jets, capable of operating effectively in modern warfare and utilizing a wide range of Western weaponry.
The transfer of such aircraft could significantly strengthen Ukraine’s combat aviation and air defense system.
As a reminder, Spain will transfer 100 VAMTAC armored vehicles and a batch of artillery ammunition to Ukraine in 2026.
Latvia has decided to transfer additional CVR(T)-type armored combat vehicles to Ukraine.
